Thomas "Tommy" Vercetti is a character from the Grand Theft Auto series who appears as the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (set in 1986). He's also mentioned in The Introduction, a prequel to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (set in 1992), and in the game itself during The Meat Business mission by former friend and lawyer Ken Rosenberg.
Tommy is a former member of the Forelli Crime family in Liberty City, who, after being released from prison following a 15-year long term, is sent to Vice City to secure a major drug deal with the Vance Brothers. . However, when the deal goes awry and the drugs and money are lost, Tommy begins searching for the person responsible for the attempted ambush, working for various Vice City underworld criminals who may provide him with answers. Over time, Tommy begins to build his own criminal empire and eventually finds the man responsible for the ambush, killing him and taking over his business, becoming the leader of his own gang, the Vercetti Crime Family.
